Frequently asked questions...

Does the trip operate all year round?

We operate from 10 October through to 31 March. This takes in the Spring and Summer when our gardens are at their best. We also catch the start of the vibrant change of colour in Autumn.  All tours must be prearranged.  We offer Group Garden Tours (mimum 6 paying adults) or Private Garden and Sightseeing Tours are available for 2 to 5 people.

What type of plantings will we see?

With our temperatures sometimes below freezing in winter and up to 30 degrees Celsius in summer our gardens are described as cool climate gardens with many plants similar to English plantings with a combination of New Zealand natives.

The spring bulbs do exceptionally well after a cold winter. Shortly after we have blossoms, azaleas, rhododendrons, irises and peonies. The roses begin to bloom as the perennials appear. The brilliant autumn colours give a vibrant showing along with the hydrangeas and the heathers.

All through the season we have a backdrop of established trees with a borrowed landscape that adds to the beauty of the gardens.

How long is the tour?

The trip has a 3 ½ hour duration. We return to Queenstown at midday in time for guests to enjoy an afternoon at leisure or participate in an afternoon activity.

Can we be picked up from our Queenstown accommodation?

Certainly, we offer a complimentary pick up service from your accommodation or if is more convenient for you we can collect you from the Station Building in the town centre.

Is it necessary to have some knowledge of gardening?

No, not at all. Just come and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We are sure you will leave inspired and enthusiastic to create a planted area at your own home – whether it be in pots, window boxes or your garden – size doesn’t matter.

What sort of vehicles do you use?

Group Tours : small comfortable coaches which seat a maximum of 19

Private Tours : ten seater van or Lexus sedan.

Is the trip weather dependent?

Luckily we do not get a lot of rain but if it is light rain we provide umbrellas and continue with the trip. If it is unseasonably heavy we will cancel. We operate our trips in the morning, which showcases the gardens at their best and also avoids the heat of the day.
